Mel Brooks award-winning musical comedy, The Producers, is to be staged at Riverlea Theatre in Hamilton in August next year.
Production company, Musikmakers Inc, have just announced that they have secured rights to perform the sought-after show, following its successful seasons in other cities.
The original Broadway production of TheProducers opened at the St James Theatre in 2001, and ran for 2502 performances, winning a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards. The New York Times said ""It's fast, fierce, shameless and altogether blissful." The following London production ran for over two years and in 2005 a film version was made.
Musikmaker's production will be directed by John Drummond, who says he chose the show because "It is so hilarious, it is a modern Broadway musical with outrageous, in your face humour - as only Mel Brooks and a handful of other comedians can do"
John expects to attract not only musical theatre buffs, but Mel Brooks fans and anyone who wants a good laugh as well.
Prior to the season of The Producers next year, Muikmakers are staging the well-loved Gilbert and Sullivan musical comedy, HMS Pinafore, in May. Further information about either production is available by phoning the theatre on 0800 800 192.
