Star Trek and Shakespeare collide in Hillcrest High School's upcoming musical Return to the Forbidden Planet.
A jukebox musical by playwright Bob Carlton, this fun, tongue-in-cheek production combines Shakespeare's The Tempest with the 1950s science fiction film Forbidden Planet (which itself drew its plot loosely from The Tempest).
Featuring 1950sand 1960s rock'n'roll classics, the plot follows the crew of a routine survey flight under the command of Captain Tempest. Distracted by an argument about the importance of men and women, the ship gets caught in a meteor shower and ends up at the mysterious planet D'Illyria.
The dialogue is largely adapted from well-known passages from Shakespeare - add in the music, dance and outlandish costumes and this production is sure to be rollicking good fun.
Show dates are Sunday March 25 at 2 pm, Monday 26, Tuesday 27, Thursday 29 and Friday 30 at 7.30 pm at Southwell School Performing Arts Centre, Peachgrove Rd.
