Richard O'Brien will make his presence felt as Fagan for Hamilton Operatic Society's production of Oliver!.

And Hamilton's young stars are begging for a role in the July show.

Hamilton Operatic Society is holding auditions for Oliver! from March 9-11 at Clarence St Theatre and Dance Studio, 59 Clarence Street.

The show is being staged at the Founders Theatre from June 23 to July 7 and ticket sales are open with an early bird special for a limited time.

They require children from the age of 8 years or over who can sing, dance, act - or all three - to be involved in the large-scale production.

Children's auditions are Friday, March 9 from 4pm to 8pm, all company and dancers en masse on Saturday, March 10 from 1pm to 3.30pm and 16 years-plus cast auditions from 9am Sunday, March 11.

Oliver Twist was written by Charles Dickens, whose 200th birthday was celebrated this year by literary fans around the world on February 7.

The musical adaptation, written by Lionel Bart has won Tony Awards for best musical, best score and several others.

Hamilton Operatic Society's creative team also produced the sell-out 2008 production of Cats and includes director David Sidwell, musical director Victoria Brown, choreographer Sonja McGirr-Garrett and executive producer Jason Wade.
