Fashion fast-forward In store, summer sales are making way for autumn and winter collections. Here is our quick insider's rundown of the coming season's must-haves.

Animal instincts

Ferocious leopard prints have had a bold presence
on the runway for a few seasons now, and serpentine-inspired prints dominate this winter. From shoes and handbags to soft delicate blouses and shift dresses, garments in a vivid array of reptile prints and textures are making their way into stores now. Make animal-inspired prints work with the rest of your wardrobe by teaming statement pieces with classic accessories and soft neutral hues.

She's a mod

This winter the Swinging 60s makes a colourful comeback. The international runways saw an eclectic rainbow of popping pinks and oranges, shift dresses and T-bar kitten heels bring the decade back to life. Retro-inspired cuts in bold colours feature when it comes to autumn/winter collections. Go for thick, sturdy fabrics that hold their shape and keep things ladylike with knee-length skirts and shift dresses, matching cardigans and high necklines. Also draw inspiration from the 60s-inspired beauty who turned heads on the catwalk with her luscious lashes and matte lipstick.

The top coat

No winter wardrobe is complete without the perfect coat. On the international runway there was no shortage of statement coats, and back home we're expecting styles from dramatic floor-grazing numbers to classic riding coats. We can't look past a classic trench in camel or black, but the quickest way to add life to your wardrobe is to work the colour-blocking trend and pick a bold coat in your favourite bright and cheerful hue.
