Keep out cat 'burglars'

A couple of neighbourhood cats keep coming into my house through the cat door - is there any way I can stop this?

There is a type of cat door you can fit that is opened by a magnet your cat wears on its collar. Only cats wearing the magnet can open the door.

This will work unless your neighbour has the same cat door.

If they too have a magnetic cat door, there is a type of door that uses a coded magnet, so only your cat's magnet can open the door. Your local pet store should be able to advise you about both products.

Be aware that your cat will need to learn how the door works, as there is a slight delay in the door opening when your cat approaches the door.

Additionally, I would keep your cat inside at night, and lock the cat door as many cats explore at night and are likely to try to sneak into your house via the cat door.

If you see your neighbours' cats on your property, discourage them by using a water pistol.

It is harmless, but unpleasant for them and will hopefully deter them from entering your property.
