Tissue paper pom poms

We made some tissue pom poms with friends this week - it was super fun and appeals to kids and adults alike. Pom poms make a marvellous decoration for a baby shower, party or special occasion. We had so much fun we are planning to make more, which we will post and share. We'd love to see pics of any pom poms - please share on facebook.com/funwithjane.com.

What you'll need

  • Tissue paper - one packet per pom pom

  • Hair clips or wire

  • Ribbon

  • Patience! (for the tissue unfolding )

Where you'll find it

  • $2 shop - discount chain stores

How to make it

  • Lay your tissue paper out flat. Fold evenly as if you were making a fan, taking care on each fold that the paper seam is smooth and straight. Cut curves on the ends of your folded up tissue - this gives the tissue pom pom a lovely rounded finish at the end.

  • Once it is folded put some hair clips or wire across the middle of the tissue, which will be the core of your tissue pom pom once hung. You can tie a ribbon on the hair clip which can help hang up the pom pom while you are separating the layers of tissue. Lay out each half of the folded tissue and begin separating - cue patience. It can be fiddly separating the tissue so take it slowly.

  • Decide where you want to hang your pom pom - and voila! You have your beautiful tissue pom pom.

About Jane

Crafting ought to be my middle name. Happily (for me), I seem to have passed my craft-mad genes on to my children - Charlie, 7, and Ella, 5. We all love making things, so we do loads of crafting together. It's our happy place.

For me, nothing beats crafting for an easy, relaxing, calm and sociable means of entertaining my kids.
