If you're looking for love online Rod, Becky, Cameron and Mel seem to have all the luck - or know how to create it.

Dating website FindSomeone has revealed a list of the 'hottest' and the 'most successful' names when it comes to attracting interest and making a love connection among its 300,000 members.

Members use nicknames and their real names are not visible unless they choose to give them when messaging another member.

But from the results, it seems those with some names know best how to sell themselves online.

Rod made the No.1 spot in the men's 'hottest' list, followed by Brad and Lindsay, and in the 'most successful' were Cameron, Gary and Brad.

When it came to women, Becky, Julia and Katherine were hot, and those who had the most luck finding a partner online were Mel, Tina and Jenny.

Brad was the most highly ranked name, appearing near the top of both lists.

The findings were compiled by measuring the number of messages and smiles, icons sent from other users to indicate their interest, and who had left the site after finding a love match.

Former site member Mark was surprised to find his name ranked among the most successful.

"It's quite interesting. I never put too much thought into that sort of thing."

The 27-year-old originally joined the site in 2010 and left it a year ago after meeting his partner.

"We got to chatting online first and then decided to meet up about a month later. She's great."

While he was a member he usually received one or two messages or smiles a day and had some advice for those wanting to attract interest from other members.

"Use a recent picture, and don't lie. It's not a good way to start things."

The results reflected the site's demographic, largely people aged 35-55, but there were still some surprises with the results, said FindSomeone manager Rick Davies.

"I was a bit surprised to see Rod topping the hottest guys' names. Brad is the overall package," he said.

However, some were not so lucky.

Topping the list of least hot names were Samuel for the men and Pam for the women.

Barry and Jacqueline struggled the most to find a partner online, the results showed.

Mr Davies had some advice for those creating an online profile and wanted to attract a high level of interest.

"Upload a great photo as your main picture, more than one if possible, and complete the profile fully. People don't want sleaze and they want to find out a fair bit about you."

Taking a long time to respond to messages, bad spelling and grammar also put off potential dates, he said.

The start of the year had seen a boom in members, which he attributed to many making resolutions to improve love life.

"It's going berserk at the moment, with numbers we've never seen before."
