Spring clean

Clean up time for ponds, water features and fountains. If yours are full of algae and rotting leaves, empty them, give them a good scrub with an appropriate cleaner and refill.

Bean support

With luck your broad beans will start to grow rapidly soon, so prepare something to support them - even a bamboo trellis will do the trick.

New season

If you're confident the frosts are over, the first of the new season's bedding plants will be available at the beginning of the month, but beware of frosts on plants like lobelia and daisies.

Fertilise roses

Apply the fertiliser around the drip line of your roses so the nutrients filter to the feeder roots. Ensure the soil is moist as this enables the roots to absorb the nutrients more easily.
