Fill in the gaps
Don't let your vegetable garden languish. Fill those gaps with cauliflower and cabbage seedlings and sow early peas.
Invest in avocados
The price of avocados in the supermarket might give you a clue that having your own tree is not a bad idea. Buy trees now
and plant immediately. Avocados are particularly vulnerable to root disease and they won't take kindly to hanging around in a pot waiting for you to find the perfect spot. Get them in now.
Start sowing
Bored rigid with planting brassicas? Start sowing seeds of carrots, onions, peas and broad beans. In frost free areas, the first crop of early potatoes can go in.
Care for currants
Prune black currants by removing about 25 per cent of the oldest shoots at the base. It'll increase air circulation, reduce congestion in the heart of the bush and encourage new growth.
