Keep compost warm
If it's cold at your place, give your compost the equivalent of an electric blanket. Wrapping it in old mats or plastic will keep in the heat and encourage further decomposition over winter.
Newly planted young trees also appreciate being wrapped up during cold winter nights.
Snip
your sasanquas
Give your Camellia sasanquas a light prune when they've finished flowering.
Fight winter frosts
Get prepared with frost cloth in case the weather takes you by surprise. Four in the morning is no time to be running around looking for something to put over tender plants.
Check for chafing
Check plant ties before it gets too windy. Remove ties from established trees and check that others are not chafing.
