For non-motorbike riders like myself, the original Trials HD game was great fun but intensely frustrating.
The sequel, Trials Evolution, is every bit as hard, although there are several changes that make it far more accessible and therefore even harder to put down.
This 2.5-dimension game pits the player againstsome of the most fiendish tracks ever conceived.
For such a difficult game to master, the controls are incredibly simple - accelerate, brake and lean forward or back. Combinations of these controls can get you through every level, guaranteed, but working out what to do and exactly when to do it requires a lot of trial and error.
Not only is it easy to crash, but it's often essential to crash so you know exactly how to negotiate a section of track next time around.
Restarting a track from the beginning or from regular checkpoints is as simple as pressing a button. And because it's instant, the frustration levels don't quite reach the fever-pitch of Trials HD.
You have the option of displaying your friends' best efforts on each track. The new multiplayer mode has four players racing at once, much like a BMX race.
As much fun as it is though, I still prefer the one-on-one ghost rivalry.
