Seasoned gamers know only too well the cash-in games that accompany many big-budget movies. More often than not, they're awful, and Star Trek is no exception. Star Trek fans will turn their noses up at this game.
Set during the period between the previous Star Trek movie and the
latest, this game has Kirk's old nemesis, the lizard-like Gorn, steal a power source through a tear in space that will allow them to conquer the universe. Kirk and Spock must follow them to an unknown planet, retrieve the device and escape back through the wormhole before it closes.
Star Trek is best played co-op with a friend, with Kirk stunning his enemies with his phaser and Spock finishing them off.
Unfortunately, it's drop-in/drop-out co-op gameplay, which means when your friend bails out, you're left with the AI taking over control of your buddy-in-arms.
This is where the game becomes almost unplayable. Namco Bandai should be trademarking a new term in gaming - AU, or Artificial Unintelligence. Forget about tactical gameplay, Captain Kirk, because Spock will suddenly become the first Vulcan to completely abandon all sense of logic and charge into crowded firefights, walk off sheer drops, stand in front of your phaser and leave you to suffer when you need healing.
Avoid playing this game solo at all costs. Instead, find a friend and save it for a rainy day.
