High definition (HD) collections have become a trend of late. With the present generation of consoles in the twilight of their lifespan it's no surprise that some of the successful franchises are being spruced up in HD.
The Ratchet & Clank series has 11 games across PS2, PSP andPS3 and the first three have been packaged in high definition providing 30 to 40 hours of action on one disc.
All three games have been faithfully presented in their original format with no alterations to the storyline. In general they look superb with the graphic upgrade.
It's great to see how the gameplay progressed, with Ratchet & Clank 3 being considerably different to Ratchet & Clank. The first game is the only one of the trilogy that shows its age. The frustrating control method where things often seem in reverse is a throwback to a time long ago when we thought glitches and annoyances in games were par for the course. It's nice to have all three games together and to see how the storyline and gameplay progresses through the trilogy.
They may be many years old now, but with the polished high definition visuals and stereoscopic 3D, Ratchet & Clank 2 and 3 can hold their own with any new release. Overall, this is a must-own for any veteran or newcomer to the series.
