Take an epic inter-planetary storyline, mix it with near-flawless gameplay, add compelling characters and you have Mass Effect 3 - an early contender for game of the year.
Following on from Commander Shepard's earlier exploits, this latest instalment is a rip-roaring ride that fans and newbies alike will delight in.
Right from the start, gamers can choose between a male or female Shepard, with customisation options also available.
Then you're on your way to tackle the threat of the menacing Reapers. And what fun that is indeed.
Not just a mindless shooter - though it is riddled with vile enemies to blast away at and engaging environments - your decisions also carry political and personal ramifications that influence how the end game plays out.
Another neat aspect is how interacting with other characters can change the ultimate outcome - do bad guys have more fun? Good guys finish last? In the Mass Effect world that is an easy question to find the answer, too.
Long-term fans will find the gameplay has been tweaked slightly, but ultimately it's quite easy to pick up.
Graphically, gamers won't be disappointed: attention to detail is top notch with the result being an immersive world that can totally lure you in.
I must offer a disclaimer, I haven't played this game to its conclusion - with gaming opinions on the end divided between being mildly disappointed to attempting to round up a lynch mob to storm the EA buildings.
I bring that up as that is the only thing that can possibly sway my mind from this being an absolute must-have in any gamer's collection.
