If Britney Spears (before she went fully fruitcake) starred in a movie that was a cross between Bring It On and Shaun Of The Dead, you'd probably be reasonably excited about it.
That premise comes close to describing Lollipop Chainsaw and there is indeed some excitement to be had, butsadly the gameplay doesn't quite live up to the good idea and the considerable pre-release hype promoting the game.
You play as the overly stereotypical blonde cheerleader-slash-zombie killer, Juliet Starling. A group of rock zombies has taken over Juliet's high school and she must find and stop them before they manage to open a portal to the "Rotten World" and the Earth is saturated with more zombies.
Juliet is armed with her pom poms, a chainsaw and her boyfriend Nick's severed head. Yes, you read that right, his severed head that cranks out jokes, stealing the show for much of the game. He is also used in some attacks and is put to good use in a selection of mini-games, the best of which is severed head basketball.
Sounds macabre? Well, it is, and that vibe is helped along by the generous serving of explicit language and sexual innuendo. In fact, if it weren't for the explicit nature of the dialogue, the gameplay itself would have been rated much lower as it's relatively tame in zombie-killing terms.
The game is a fresh outlook on the genre, but once the novelty wears off, due to most of the decent combos only being available late in the game, then unfortunately an exciting idea soon becomes a laborious chore.
