Gamers are a fussy bunch. Treat their favourite genre badly and you'll die the death of a thousand neck-beards. Cartoon fans are even worse in their loyalty - get caught in the middle of a Simpsons vs Family Guy argument and you'll know all about it.
So imagine theimmense courage (or blind stupidity) it took for Activision to take on a Family Guy adventure game. Imagine the knife-edge that the development team tip-toed along during production.
In this third-person action adventure you play as Stewie or Brian in single-player mode, or both in the drop-in, drop-out
co-op multiplayer as you travel through several multiverses to defeat Stewie's half-brother and arch nemesis Bertram.
Gameplay consists of making your way through each level, defeating waves of enemies on your way to a sub-boss or boss finale. This is no free-roaming sandbox; however, you have primary objectives which must be achieved to progress and secondary ones usually around collecting objects in a level.
If this game were called something different and contained generic gaming characters, it would be one of the most awful games of this generation. But it's the subject matter, characters and in-jokes that lift this game enough to stop it being a complete waste of time. It's true that Family Guy fans and gaming fans will likely despise this game, but those in the middle will get some chuckles. Keep your expectations low so the only way is up.
