It seems to be cold and bleak pretty much everywhere around the country, but that doesn't mean your footwear has to be boring and practical for the next few months.
I always think winter fashion is lots of fun - whether it's boots and leggings with a big, chunky coator cute flats and hosiery with a knee-length skirt. It's much easier to play with colours when your clothes have a bit more substance to them!
For the past couple of winters, over-the-knee boots have featured quite heavily. This hasn't been to everyone's taste - there's a tendency for some styles to drift a bit more into the Pretty Woman mould than many people are comfortable with. Those who haven't embraced the trend, then, will be pleased with the range of mid-to-upper calf styles that have made their way back into the shops.
I've recently bought a pair of flat, almost-knee-high boots with fun buckle detailing and warm sheepskin lining ($99 from Wild Pair) and although walking on a flat sole is taking some getting used to, I love them! With leggings, teamed with a pretty dress or over the top of skinny jeans, they are really versatile.
Although I nabbed a bargain on this pair, it is usually worth spending a bit extra on boots. A good, well-made pair will last you several years.
The other winter footwear essential that tends to have everyone rolling their eyes is the Ugg boot. They are awesome for winter, especially worn over jeans at the weekend. Mine are by EMU and are the warmest things ever. Admittedly, my partner regards me with suspicion when I go into town with them on - I'll have to point out some of the recent photos of Courtney Cox and Hilary Duff wearing them to prove I am in good company.
