It's that time of year again. With the changing season, comes the changing of your wardrobe.

Cooler temperatures mean wearing more layers, and that makes your after-work outfits more complicated for evening plans.

After nine-plus hours of reports, presentations and meetings, we tend to look more dreary than fashionable. That leaves us no time to go home and "freshen" up.

Here are five easy steps to quickly update your comfortable outfit into an ensemble that is after-work appropriate:

START WITH A GREAT OUTFIT

Any outfit that makes you feel confident, beautiful, pulled together, chic and is flattering to your figure is the perfect start.

CHANGE ONE ITEM

Replace a woven work shirt with a soft chiffon top, change out of jeans for a fitted skirt, or even add a structured jacket or a cardigan for instant polish.

ADD AN ACCESSORY

Putting on a statement necklace or belt will take you from dated to modern - even try adding metallic dangly earrings or a printed scarf to pack a punch to your look.

ADD A TOUCH OF COLOUR

Quickly update your makeup.

Put on some bold eye shadow, sharp lipstick or soft blush (never all three at once). Simple add-ons, such as red lipstick, can take you from boring to fashion-forward in a matter of seconds.

SWITCH YOUR SHOES

For the final step, switch out of your comfy work shoes into a pair that have a heel to elongate your leg and are dressy to make a statement.

Remember, it only takes these simple accessories and swap-outs to look fabulous.
