As the sun continues to shine, our Kiwi minds are drawn to the beach.

As a coastal nation, it's not surprising to see an overwhelming sea theme emerging in fashion this summer, though the trend, as usual, started in the Northern Hemisphere spring/summer collections. But that won't stop us antipodeans from enjoying it.

So as you shop this summer, dream of the ocean waves lapping on the shore like ombre silks, dip-dyed cardigans and white lace over shades of blue and green. Embrace coral-inspired jewellery and laser cut-outs. Imagine soft tones of sea foam, emerald and cobalt blue. There are as many variations on these colours as there are colours in the sea this summer.

You could get animalistic with Karen Walker's octopus and whale prints, inspired by Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, or Max's fish print, which appears on everything from dresses to swimwear to jandals.
