Summer seems to have come to a rather abrupt end. Last weekend, I was wandering around in shorts. Today, I am sitting at my desk wearing a polar fleece hoodie, with my feet resting on a heater.
But one of the few good things about the approach of winter isthat it's time to stock up the wardrobe for the next season.
Knitwear is back in a huge way this winter. Unlike past years, where the only options have been black jumpers or off-black cardigans, the trend this year is for a bit more colour.
There are long cardies to wrap up in, bright, chunky knits to capture attention and even printed woollen jumpers - stars, polka dots, neon shades and cartoon character prints are popping up.
Some knitwear is really elegant. You could pair a long-line cardy with a blouse, skinny jeans and heels for a lunch date. And some jumpers are getting so long that they are crossing into tunic territory and you could forego the jeans for leggings.
As usual, the opposite is also becoming popular - preppy jumpers that finish at waistline. This is a look that can be unflattering on those with long bodies.
Cropped jumpers are fine if you pair one with a 50s-style flared skirt but dicey with trousers if your bottom half isn't your favourite part of your body.
But this is knitwear that lends itself to a bit of accessorising - pop on some bangles or chunky necklaces to brighten up the wintry days.
