When Jonathan White (Channing Tatum) escaped from the troubled Projects housing development in New York, he thought he could put its horrors behind him.
For the then young boy, life was about survival - you simply had to do what was necessary to get through.
His father, who had died, had been a New York cop so it was likely Jonathan would join the police family when he was old enough.
His father's police friends had helped him escape trouble as a boy, so he wanted to do his bit now.
When he is transferred back to his old neighbourhood he hopes the demons of his childhood can remain buried.
But that is not to be - notes start appearing accusing the police of covering up two murders 16 years earlier.
A newspaper reporter starts putting pressure on police with the publication of the letters so Jonathan must find out who is behind the letters before his life starts to unravel.
Tatum is part of a strong cast that includes Al Pacino, Ray Liotta and Katie Holmes but The Son of No One is more about the story than the individual stars.
It is a gritty down-to-earth story about the hard streets and housing ghettos of New York and not only the battle to survive, but the fight to emerge and succeed.
