David Brown (Woody Harrelson) is a hard man who takes no prisoners.

A veteran Los Angeles police officer, Brown believes in his own form of justice and he dishes it out when and where he sees fit.

Working out of the Rampart branch, Brown is the last renegade policeman who refuses to be corralled by authority.

There is little he offers that is of a positive nature, but it is fair to say he hates absolutely everyone except his family.

He is racist, misogynistic, egotistical, brutally violent and a womaniser.

The one positive in his life is his family - a bizarre combination of two sisters (both ex-wives of his) and two daughters (one to each woman).

Dave's life is spiralling out of control when a simple traffic accidents leads him to viciously bash up a motorist to within an inch of his life.

Caught on video, Dave will need to work hard to get out of this situation.

But Dave knows only one way forward and that is hard out.

Rather than seek understanding, he fights his superiors head-on as his life's downward trend gathers momentum.

Rampart is a hard and gritty story that certainly pulls no punches in its depiction of a bad cop's life on the means streets of Los Angeles.
