Nick's initial reaction to his situation is to set up shop on his front lawn and drink beer like it is water.
When his money dries up he is forced to confront his situation and it takes a friendship with a local African-American boy to set him on the right path.
Kenny (Christopher Jordan Wallace) is wise beyond his years and his home truths get Nick thinking.
Nick decides that everything must go, all his possessions.
With Kenny's help, he organises a monumental garage sale so he can move on with his life.
As Nick reflects on his life and considers some of the items he is selling, it's a poignant tale.
For it seems that with each sold item, a greater weight lifts off his shoulders and the path to his future becomes so much clearer.
Ferrell certainly surprises with his effort here.
We see some serious acting ability as he plays a character who's trying to to turn his life into something better.
