With every generation of Doctor Who, I am convinced I won't like the new chap as much as the old favourite.

The last Doctor, David Tennant, had just the right mix to make the perfect time traveller so how could his replacement be anywhere near as good?

Well, he is. Matt Smith is surely one of the best Doctors, with his humour and quirky ways adding a special flavour to the Time Lord's adventures that we all have know and loved over the years.

And the Doctor's latest sidekicks - Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill) - are also good fun and add life to his existence.

This five-episode set is the first half of series seven and there's a wonderful diversity with every episode.

No series would be complete with a visit from the arch enemies - the Daleks.

But, surprisingly, this time around they need the Doctor's help to avoid annihilation.

For a change of pace we then head off to another spaceship which is home to, of all things, some marauding dinosaurs.

A Tardis passenger, Queen Nefertiti, is helping to solve that problem.

The obvious follow-up to that adventure is the Wild West and a Cyborg gunslinger seeking revenge from the man who created him.

A mysterious invasion of black cubes in England puzzles the Doctor for far too long while the final episode is the most scary of all as The Angels Take Manhattan.

The Doctor may have been around for a long time but age certainly hasn't wearied him.
