The recent world financial meltdown left many victims behind - at the top of the business tree and at the bottom.

Criminal dealings and uncertain financial markets have seen empires come tumbling down, with many victims.

Arbitrage explores the dealings of one financial mogul.

Robert Miller (Richard Gere) is a hedge fund magnate who thought he had cracked the deal of a lifetime.

When that deal turned sour, he was left with a $400 million hole in his business that only fraud could cover up.

Trying to extricate himself from his troubles, Miller's problems grow tenfold when a car accident leaves him with a dead mistress and a lot of damage control to do.

With his wife (Susan Sarandon) growing tired of his private and business dealings and a daughter (Brit Marling) growing suspicious of his company dealings, Miller has more than a business to sell; he must sell his story of innocence.

Key to his continuing freedom is Jimmy Grant (Nate Parker), a young black man who has known Miller for years.

And hot on their tail is Detective Michael Bryer (Tim Roth), who will take any measure necessary to expose the truth.

Arbitrage is a step into another world - a world of money, power and influence.

It is a world when connections can make the difference between freedom and prison.
