Either we're becoming really good cooks or we're really bad, because the number of recipe searches on Google is on the rise.

Recipes for MasterChef favourites macaroons and beef Wellington were on the list of the fastest rising searches mid-way through last year, but some classics are also being learnt by a new generation, with cheese rolls and pavlova searches climbing.

Saturdays seem to be when people get crafty in the kitchen, with most recipe searches happening on that day. And it's Annabel Langbein who is proving, online at least, to be Kiwis' favourite chef - she's polling as the most-searched-for Kiwi cook.

Christmas is still the most popular time to learn a new recipe, though. In the week leading up to the big day, recipe searches double in number.

Top recipe searches: 1.Bread, 2. Chocolate cake, 3. Pizza, 4. Banana cake, 5. Pancakes, 6. Cupcakes, 7. Icing, 8. Cookies, 9. Cheesecake, 10. Brownies.

Big hits in space

What do you listen to after a hard week of space walking and rocketing to the International Space Station to restock its supplies? Rocket Man of course.

The Elton John hit was the song chosen to wake up the crew of Nasa's final space shuttle mission after one of their nights in space.

The song's singer also sent them a message.

"We wish you much success on your mission," Elton John said. "A huge thank you to all the men and women at Nasa who worked on the shuttle for the last three decades."

The crew's days have also recently started with Viva la Vida by Coldplay, Mr Blue Sky by Electric Light Orchestra and Tubthumping by Chumbawamba.

Games break phone barriers

Scrabble. It's the game that not only brings families together but also owners of Android and Apple phones.

US video game giant EA has released a download that people with both platforms can play together.

The game breaks down previous boundaries that forced Apple to play with Apple and Android to play with Android.

"We really are kind of obsessed right now about how to tear down boundaries of entry to some of these games," EA Interactive senior vice president Chip Lange said.

"The vision is to get people into games in a quick, easy way."

Facebook members can also get in on the fun.
