Cue the 1920s and go Gatsby this season with Maybelline New York. The look is luminous porcelain skin, defined brows, bold eyelashes and colour-popping lips.

To achieve this on-trend look, follow Maybelline New York's makeup artist Julia O'Neil's steps below to recreate true flapper style.

Step 1 Knowledge is powder: Blend Fit Me Foundation (RRP$22.99) into the skin, skip the bronzer and set the foundation with Fit Me Pressed Powder (RRP$19.99) to achieve a perfect velvet, matte finish. Keep blush to a minimum by lightly sweeping a hint of Fit Me Blush in Medium Pink (RRP$19.99) over the apples of the cheeks.

Hint: Try using a powder puff to gently roll and press the powder into small sections of the skin at a time.

Step 2 Groom your eyebrows with Master Shape Brow Pencil (RRP$18.99) and work a thin layer of Eye Studio Color Tattoo in Tough as Taupe (RRP$13.99) from the eyelid up to the crease of the eye, then blend the edges.

Hint: This will create the perfect base for long-lasting eyeshadow and will also stop creases.

Step 3 Use Expert Wear Quads Eyeshadow in Charcoal Smokes (RRP$15.99) for a modern, smoky look. For added intensity, apply the darkest shade along the lash-line and blend upwards.

Hint: Blending is key to any smoky eye look - blend well and when you think you've finished, blend some more.

Step 4Line the top lash-line with Hyper Glossy Liquid Liner (RRP$19.99) in black and apply two coats of Volum' Express The Colossal Cat Eyes Mascara (RRP$23.99) on the upper and lower lashes for long, dark, full lashes.

Step 5 Define your lip using SuperStay Lip Liner in Red (RRP$18.99) and really focus on defining the Cupid's bow. Fill in the entire lip with the lip pencil to create a long-lasting base. Top this off with Color Sensational Vivids in Neon Red ($20.99) for a pop of beautiful, intense colour.

We have a pack to give away containing fabulous Maybelline New York products that will help achieve this Gatsby look. Send your name and contact details to competitions@apn.co.nz by June 13. The prize pack will contain the following products to help achieve the look: MNY Fit Me Foundation, MNY Master Shape Brow Pencil, MNY Eye Studio Hyper Glossy Liquid Liner, MNY Volum' Express The Colossal Cat Eyes Mascara, and MNY Color Sensational Lipstick in Fatal Red.
