Ty Segall's Sleeper

Ty Segall's Sleeper

You may never have heard of him, but Ty Segall has a sizeable back catalogue, including three (count 'em three!) 2012 releases, nicely topped off with this latest release Sleeper.

It's a largely acoustic and quite mellow affair for the garage rocker, with its standout opening and title track employing strings and sweet harmonies to lull the listener into submission.

The sedate pace continues on The Keepers before the uncomfortable ode to his estranged mother, Crazy, ups the tempo slightly.

At points Segall descends into psychedelia, slotting in with the album's dual themes of sleeping and dreaming.

You might hear nods to the Beatles, as on She Don't Care, and early Stones at other points, while the acoustic and slide guitars add a touch of cowboy to proceedings throughout.
