A pedestrian injured in a collision with a car in Tauranga has been released from hospital.

A police media spokeswoman said there were called to an incident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian near the shops on Welcome Bay Rd about 7.27pm Wednesday.

Police were called to assist other emergency services.

A St John spokeswoman said St John were notified of the incident at 7.25am and sent one ambulance.

One person in a serious condition was taken to Tauranga Hospital, she said.

However, a Bay of Plenty Health District Health Board spokesman said a 34 year-old male from Tauranga was treated and discharged last night.
