Search under way for missing man in Kaimai Ranges

Five search and rescue teams are looking for a man who hasn't returned from a walk in the Kaimai Ranges.

A police spokeswoman said police received a report yesterday that 28-year-old Liam Mcpherson had gone for a walk on or near Te Aroha mountain on Wednesday afternoon and not returned.

He was reported missing by a friend yesterday morning, and was in touch with a family member yesterday afternoon.

Police said there were concerns for Mcpherson's safety and wellbeing.

Two volunteer LandSAR teams were deployed yesterday afternoon but did not find Mcpherson.

Five teams recommenced the search early this morning.

Police have also asked the Department of Conservation to close the Wairongamai Track while the search was ongoing.

Police would like to hear from anyone who has information which could help find Mcpherson by contacting Te Aroha Police.
