The woman who was hit by a car on Devonport Rd on Friday and died has now been named. Photo/file

The woman fatally hit by a car in Tauranga's CBD has been named.

Barbara Joy Rowe, 76, died on Saturday after being struck on Devonport Rd near 1st Ave on Friday afternoon.

Police released a statement expressing their sympathies to her family.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.

On Friday, police shut down Devonport Rd to motorists and pedestrians shortly after the crash, outside Tauranga AA.

On Saturday, police confirmed Rowe had died and another person was taken to Tauranga Hospital seriously injured from a crash near Maketu.
