David Wilson, chief executive of Northland Inc, is to campaign in Auckland in the Te Atatu electorate for NZ First.

The man in charge of promoting economic development in Northland is standing for NZ First in an Auckland electorate.

NZ First leader Winston Peters has announced that David Wilson, CEO of regional economic development agency Northland Inc, is the NZ First candidate for Te Atatu.

"I am delighted to be announcing David Wilson as our candidate in Te Atatu," Mr Peters said.

"He will bring to the party and the parliament an economic perspective and acumen of real force and. He is a leader of international repute in his field and his entry into national politics and policy making is a momentous step," Mr Peters said.

Mr Wilson was unavailable for comment.

The seat is held by Labour housing spokesman Phil Twyford.
