A crime scene has been set up in North St, Te Awamutu as police investigate the death of a man found outside a property at about 7pm.

It is believed the deceased man was a local person.

CIB detectives were called to the scene and police media confirmed the death was being treated as unexplained.

Police and Te Awamutu Fire Brigade cordoned off a section of North St, between Alexandra and Leith streets and officers were guarding the scene.
