No arrests were made after armed police blocked a busy residential street in Tauranga south this morning.

Residents travelling down Poike Rd were turned around by police near Sapphire St and Hollister Lane about 6.30am.

Police have since confirmed to NZME the incident was in relation to methamphetamine dealing but were no charges laid.

A reporter at the scene said armed police were not releasing any details but there were four to five police cars outside a house.

A police communications spokesman said the incident was a pre-planned police operation involving a search warrant.

''It's not unusual to have armed police deployed for something like this,'' he said.

''It's all planned. We aren't rushing to a special job or anything like that.''
