Plane crashes at airport

A plane coming in to land at Tauranga Airport this afternoon has crashed.

The light aircraft crashed on Runway 25 at the airport about 2.45pm, a Northern Fire Communications spokesman said.

It is understood the sole occupant of the plane was not badly hurt, although St John Ambulance were called to the scene.

Tauranga and Mount Maunganui firefighters were also called but stood down before arriving at the airport, the spokesman said.
