A good representation of players from throughout the province contested various divisions in the Kaitaia Croquet Club's annual Stonecraft Tournament in scorching Indian Summer conditions last Friday.
Members from Whangarei, Kensington, Waipu, Kerikeri and Doubtless Bay clubs joined their hosting counterparts to play both association and golf croquet divisions. Theevent started at 10am with 36 players spread over six small greens and by the end of the long hot day, the winners were as follows.
Association croquet 1st division: Evelyn Christensen (Waipu) 1, A Yangi (Kensington) 2 or 1st runner up, Lynda Thompson (Kaitaia) 3; 2nd division: May Irving (Kaitaia) 1, Loma Berghan (Kaitaia) 2, Bett Dawson (Doubtless Bay) 3; and, Good sport: Wally Thompson.
Golf croquet, 1st division: Margaret Adlin (Kerikeri) 1, Janet Sole (Doubtless Bay) 2, Pauline Ford (Kaitaia) 3; 2nd division: Cissie Jones (Kaitaia), Lesley Hoggard (Kaitaia), Marjorie Riddle (Kaitaia); Good sport: Pat Brott.
The club congratulated organiser Drago Yelavich for running a smooth tournament with no problems, "Not an easy task," and also gave big thanks to Pat Davis who did everyone proud in the kitchen.
