Papakura teams stood out in the top results from the Men's Memorial, an open triples tournament played in perfect weather at Cooper's Beach over the weekend of May 12-13.

The format was four games of 1 hour 20 minutes on Saturday, with the top 12 teams progressing to the main event and the remaining nine going into the consolation event on Sunday, where they all played three games.

President Jack Hughes welcomed all players and called for a minute's silence for lost supporters of this tournament, and thanked the club's major sponsors for their ongoing generosity and support.

Results were, Highest Qualifier on day one: Ian Gordon, Jim Hart, Kevin Martinovich (Papakura) 4 wins, 8 points, 22 ends, 62 shots.

Main Event presented by Carol and Trevor Smith: Cedric Campbell, Alan Thom, Barry Allison (Combined) 3 wins, 6 points, 18 ends, 30 shots, 1 (i.e. first); Trevor Johnstone, Bruce Bougen, Robert Woodridge (Papakura) 2, 5, 16, 29, 2; Ian Gordon, Jim Hart, Kevin Martinovich (Papakura) 2, 4, 16, 31, 3.

Consolation event: George Shaw, Colin Brown, George Fabling (Papakura) 3, 6, 17, 29, 1; Barrie Johnstone, Nick Blechynden, Nigel Leslie (Kaeo) 3, 6, 16, 40, 2; Tai Tahua, Shaun Richards, Bruce Shepherd (Kaikohe) 2, 4, 15, 38, 3.

Organisers gave many thanks to everyone who contributed to make the weekend a great success. The list included the ladies in the kitchen who supplied a delicious hot meal on Saturday night, a great afternoon tea on Sunday, and soup for lunches on both days, the barman, umpires, greenkeeper, match committee and raffle sellers.

Thanks also went to Dawn King, Cynthia Stephens and Nancy Page who filled in to give the men on the bye a game in each round.
