Nineteen schools took part in the Far North Zone athletics competition at Kaitaia Intermediate School.

The schools represented their five zones - North, East, West, Central and Kaitaia, with the only absence of note being the North Hokianga zone.

The day was a huge success with participants from Year 4 to Year 8 participating in their qualified track or field events. The athletes competed with determination and displayed fabulous sportsmanship skills. The track finals were watched with great anticipation with many spectators being entertained by vocal parents and teachers.

"Our volunteers were very impressed with the high skill level and talent on offer and said that it would be great to see some of these talented students at the Kaitaia Athletic Club practice evening every Tuesday 5.30-7pm at the Kaitaia College," organiser Louise Rogers said Acknowledgements to Kaitaia Intermediate for hosting and Allan Greaves for his time and effort in getting the field ready for the event and our many helpers for the day, special mention to the Kaitaia College students for their assistance on the day.
