A large crowd of local players converged upon Houhora to take part in the Any Combination 2x4x2 Tournament last month.
A report from the mixed pairs event noted 20 teams from Waitangi, Kerikeri, Cooper's Beach, Oruru, Far North RSA, Kaitaia Church Rd, Kaitaia Combined and the host bowling clubs competedfor the top three places in excellent conditions on Saturday, January 11.
The format for the day's play was five games of one hour with morning tea after the first game and afternoon tea at the conclusion of play. Trays of sliced watermelon was served during the afternoon to help with the heat of the day.
Results were, Toto Thompson and Marty Doak (RSA) 4 wins, 24 ends, 57 points, 1 (e.g.1st); Roma and Oscar Marsh (Houhora) 4, 20, 43, 2; Gordon Settle and Glenis Muir (RSA/ Oruru) 4, 19, 45, 3; and, Lucky draw: Trevor Dyer and Penny Clementson (Waitangi/ Kerikeri).
On behalf of the hosting club, organisers thanked everyone who supported this tournament.
The next tournament at Houhora is on Thursday, February 6 (Waitangi Day), the Jarrett Memorial, the annual Cowley Hire Centre invitation men's open fours. Also coming up before summer's out is the club's extremely popular - for obvious reasons - Kaimoana Tournament.
