Time to paint the town yellow on Daffodil Day

Jacqui Gloyer, Dave Collard and Dave McLeavey were amongst those who slaved over hot stoves (and deep fryers) to produce last year's Lions mega breakfast at Cooper's Beach.

Kaitaia doesn't have its traditional Daffodil Day baby photo competition this year, but the annual fundraising effort on behalf of the Cancer Society will be very well supported regardless.

Far North REAP's contribution includes a Paint our town yellow shop window dressing competition in Kaitaia this week, as a reminder to the public to give generously to Friday's Daffodil Day street collection.

Meanwhile the Far North Vintage Car Club will host a fundraising rally for vehicles of any and all descriptions, ancient and modern, on Sunday, as part of a nationwide effort co-ordinated by the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand.

The rally will start at The Warehouse in Kaitaia at 1pm, travelling to Mangonui then back to the Matthews Museum at Aurere. The entry fee of $10 goes to the Cancer Society, along with museum entry fees. Anyone who would like to go directly to the museum will be welcome to do so, from 1pm.

A similar rally will leave from the Kerikeri Post Office at 1pm on Sunday, travelling to Long Bay, Russell, for a BYO afternoon tea.

The Mangonui Lions Club is gearing up for its traditional Mega breakfast at the Cooper's Beach Bowling Club on Friday, 6am-9am, $20 for all adults can eat, $10 for children under 10, and with multiple raffles. Phone Dave or Ina on (09) 406-1232 or phone/text Kuki on (027) 202-4840 to book.

The Lions will also be barbecuing next to ther Cooper;'s Beach Butcher (9am-1pm). Other Daffodil Day events:

* Whakawhiti Ora Pai street stall at Te Kao on Friday.
* Cake stalls and raffles at Kaeo Anne's, Kaeo, on Thursday and Friday.
* Daffodil Day breakfast at Northland College, Kaikohe, 6.30am-9am, quiz night at the Kaikohe RSA (register at the ANZ Bank).
* Street appeals in Ohaeawai, Kawakawa, Opua and Russell, and a garden club morning team.
* Daffodil Day breakfast at Paihia's Kingsgate Hotel Auto Lodge, 7.30am, tickets ($21) at Gold 'n Gifts, including raffles and prizes, and street appeal.
* Window displays in Kerikeri, and dinner at Ake Ake vineyard and restaurant tomorrow ($45).
