Police release names of two people killed in crashes in Northland last week. Photo/File

Police have released the names of two people who died in separate crashes in the north of the country last week.

The man who died in a crash in Matakohe on Friday was Barry Tana, 51, from Ruawai.

Police were notified of the crash on SH12 at 1.10am, and arrived to find his vehicle upside down. Only one car was thought to be involved in the crash.

On Saturday a womanwas killed in a crash on SH10 in Kaingaroa in the Far North. She was 45-year-old Tania Lynn Tapsellof Kaitaia.

Emergency services were notified of the crash just after 12.30pm. Another woman and two children in the same vehicle were taken to hospital, police said.

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding both crashes.

Tana and Tapsell were among eight people who died on New Zealand's roads over just 24 hours.
