The Northern Swords have been hunting for their first win in the National Rugby League Competition, and their biggest chance to nab one will come tomorrow.
They will face Heartland , who also haven't won a game yet in the inaugural NZRL competition, at New Plymouth's Yarrow Stadium.
After making weekly improvements
in their first three games, last weekend's round five match against Waicoa Bays Stallions was a dismal affair for coach Revell Neal, who could do nothing from the sideline as his team were pummelled 72-8 at Blake Park in Tauranga. It was a game the outfit had targeted to win, along with tomorrow's match, and the team will be determined to turn their luck around with the thrashing still fresh in their minds. It will be an opportunity to get a win before facing powerhouse Auckland at Toll Stadium, in the final round next weekend.
Meanwhile, it is a tight competition at the top of the premiers competition ladder, with Wellington Orcas, Counties Manukau and Auckland all sitting on eight points, ahead of South Island and Waicoa Bays Stallions, both on six points.
Heartland and the Northern Swords are at the foot of the ladder, on two points.
The Swords premier side kicks off against Heartland at 2pm tomorrow , while Northern Swords 17s play Heartland 17s at 12.30pm, and Northern Swords 15s kick off against their Heartland 15s hosts at 12pm.
Northern Swords Premiers: Lewis Kaka, Sam Selwyn, Innocent Tuimavave-Mau, Isaia Turuva, Anaru Thompson, Kyle Hool, Taoho Kake, Wiki Record, Woody Maihi, Logan Pocklington, Jakey Maru, Santos Gillies, Koro Manawaiti. Interchange: Tane Ravlick, Joshua Poasa, Eric Abraham, William Wiki.
Heartland Premiers: Ziggy Tangira, Aston Mihaere, Teariki Peneha, Jaxon Samoa, Jaykib Donaldson, Manaia Osborne, Logan Whaitiri, Mohi Kendrick, Valu Laumape, Hemi Rawiri, Pauly Tuuta, Takaroa Peneha, Richard Graham. Interchange: Cruz Rauner, Ants Tiplady, Alby King, Mike Wilson.
