Northland swimmers shone again on the final two days of the Mayfair Pools 2011 Age Group Swimming Championships in Wellington.
On the penultimate day of the five-day competition last week, Northwaves' Melita Raravula secured another two medals on a night when nine Northlanders featured in the finals.
Raravula added a silver in
the Girls 14 Years 100m Butterfly in a personal best time of 1:05.15, and a bronze in the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1:16.92.
Northland had a run of fourths on Friday, with Bay of Islands swimmer Carla Marsh just out of the medals in the Girls 16 Years 100m Breaststroke and her clubmate, Ashlee Crane, following suit in the Girls 16 Years 100m Butterfly.
The youngest member of the Northland team, Whangarei Swimming Club's Maddison Eastwood, secured another top five finish, this time in the Girls 13 Years 100m Breaststroke, while Kamo's Holly Duckmanton and Bream Bay's Hayley Jensen were fifth in the Girls 16 Years 50m Backstroke and the Girls 15 Years 100m Butterfly, respectively.
Meanwhile, Bay of Islands' Haydn Jurisich claimed eighth place in the fiercely competitive Boys 15 Years 100m Backstroke division on Friday.
On Saturday, during the final day of competition, Raravula capped off a very successful Age Groups campaign, claiming silver in the Girls 14 Years 200 Individual Medley, taking her medal tally to six, one gold, two silver and three bronze, while Crane collected a silver for the 16 Years Girls 200m Butterfly. Both swimmers did personal bests.
Northland hauled in eight medals overall.
