Northland proved too strong for the host team on day two of the Northern Districts Emerging Rangatahi Tane Under-19 cricket tournament in Gisborne.

Poverty Bay made 88 all out in 30.3 overs in their 50-over clash with the northerners at Harry Barker Reserve.

The visitors polished that off in fewer than 11 overs for the loss of only one wicket for a nine-wicket victory.

Skipper Taye McGuinness was the only Poverty Bay batter among the runs. He made 32 runs off 42 balls, including four fours and a six.

Nathaniel Fearnley (10) was the only other batter to reach double figures. Jonah Reynolds was nine not out when Poverty Bay were dismissed.

Paceman Johnny Gray continued his impressive form with the ball in picking up the only Northland wicket for 12 runs off his four overs.
