The 2011 Northern Swords squads have been named, with the teams looking to make steps forward from their inaugural 2010 season.
All selections are preliminary, with all three teams to settle on 25-person squads to take into the New Zealand Rugby League National Competition starting August 28, with all three teams set to play Auckland, in Whangarei.
All three teams contain a mix of 2010 players and fresh faces, with Rugby League Northland General Manager Rob Wakelin confident that 2011 will see an improvement in the Northern Swords' fortunes.
"Our teams went in the deep end in 2010 and while it was a challenge, the teams and coaches alike got a vivid understanding of the level of competition that exists and will be much better for that experience.
"We've had tremendous outcomes getting the local 15s and 17s grades underway and the senior competition has also had a noticeable lift in standard this season," he said.
Wakelin says they remain committed to taking their matches throughout venues in Northland.
