Yoshifuji struggled to match his first round, carding 77 to end six-over on 146, giving Nitsche and Fowler a chance to snatch victory.
It came down to the 36th hole.
After they both hit close approach shots to the final hole, Nitsche had an eight-foot birdie putt to close the door which went rolling by, leaving Fowler the opportunity to chip in for birdie to take the competition to extra holes.
Fowler's chip narrowly missed, handing Nitsche the Northland Junior Title for the first time, continuing his winning form around Northland of late.
In the girls' field, three-time champion Brooke Kingi took an early lead, carding 75, while Soktaera Sean, Soktaerodh Sean and Belinda May were close behind, each with rounds of 77 on the par-72 yellow course.
With multiple players in contention across all divisions, perfect weather and the course looking immaculate, the scene was set for a tight finish.
Competition heated up after Kingi went three-over par in her first nine holes. Soktaera Sean played nicely, going even-par to hold a one-shot lead at the turn.
The lead then stretched to five shots before Brooke Kingi birdied three of her last four holes, leaving her and Sean tied going down the last.
An untimely three-putt double bogey from Sean and a tidy up-and-down to save par from Kingi meant the under-23 trophy was heading back to Whangaroa for another year, Kingi stretching her winning streak to four years in a row.
Meanwhile, in division two, 9-year-old Robby Turnbull turned it on to card 82 off the par-71 blue tees, giving him a two-shot victory over Haochen Wang.
In the purple tee division, Rafe Fleming Bone showed some nice touch carding 46 to take first place while Aaron Halaapipi won the nine-hole nett.
Sam Hewson, Teneille Hiki and Jack Hay all showed promise which we hope continues in years to come.
