Whangaruru took another step towards the top four when they narrowly won a strongly contested game against Manawanui, 59-58, in Whangarei Netball Centre's premier grade.
There was only one goal in it during Friday's clash, and the game was close for the whole 60 minutes. Whangaruru goal shoot Karlene Kingi keeps
improving and she mixed it up and combined well with Sophie Tua at goal attack making it difficult for the Manawanui defence. Harriet Hardy's move to goal keep early in the game worked well for the team and she combined effectively with Reanon Hereraka Sadler at goal defence. For Manawanui, Judy Campbell at goal attack and goal shoot owned the goal circle and shot well. Sian Telfer at centre in the first half for Manawanui was hard to combat. In the second half Addy Campbell played an effective wing attack game.
WGHS 1 recovered from their narrow loss last week to have a comprehensive 76-44 win against Onerahi 2.
Truely Harding did exceptionally well at goal defence for WGHS 1, especially as this is not her usual position and on attack Shawni Paniona at goal attack then wing attack played well and Tayla Cook played well at wing attack delivering good ball to the shooters.
Onerahi 2 had a strong first quarter but after that the team seemed to lack their normal spirit and were lacklustre in their performance despite several positional changes each quarter. The only standout was Caitlin McLean at centre then wing defence with her fast drives and tips.
Onerahi 1 had a comfortable 53-27 win. It was a whole team effort with some nice defence and polished movements on attack with good shots to finish. Goal attack Donna Stratford had a good game and Emma Semenoff at wing attack fed the circle with precision.
Takahiwai suffered an early injury of a key player and they lost momentum with a number of changes needing to be made. However, as always Belinda Dawson at goal defence had a solid game and Amie Pooley at wing attack persevered and filled in the gaps on attack.
Fideliter 1 continued their winning streak with a good 52-26 win over Old Boys 1.
Fideliter 1's Trina Henare and Lara Tipene paired up nicely in the goal circle on attack and at the other end Alisha Takimoana dominated the circle defence providing good tips and rebounds.
