Takahiwai 1 continued their winning run in Premier Reserves when they defeated a young Manawanui Collegiate Red team.

Collegiate made Takahiwai work hard for the 53-42 win, narrowly taking the first and third quarters. The outcome was effectively decided in the second quarter, which Takahiwai 1 won by 11 goals.

Manawanui Collegiate Red's Raiha Turuwhenua had a stand out game at goal shoot and Sharrell Toka at centre moved well in the mid court and fed her shooters well.

Meanwhile, Manawanui's other team in the grade found themselves in a similar situation against Fideliter 3.

Manawanui Social led by a goal early on before Fideliter 3 pulled away to win 46-36.

Fideliter 3's Frances Esveld (goal keep) defended tightly and combined well with Kelly Stevens (goal defence).

Kayla Gentil and Sue Culham, both in mid court, produced solid performances.

Louise Morgan in the shooting circle shot accurately from good ball from patient feeders.

Manawanui Social's Louise McGrath (goal keep) was strong in the first half and Julie Williams moved from the shooting circle to the defensive circle, showing her versatility. Jo Leef played wing defence to centre and moved through the court consistently on attack and defended well. Kylie Campbell at goal attack fed the ball well to goal shoot Moana Matautia.

In the final game, Wahine Toa 1 proved too strong for Marist 2, winning 55-49.

Marist 2's best quarter was the second when they led the match by two.

They were not able to sustain this and Wahine Toa won the next two quarters.

The Wahine Toa 1 players were proud of the win, after the bereavement of a team member.

For Marist 2, the defence was tested in the goal circle but Germaine Gibson and Lucinda McBeth played well. Their shooting combination fought hard too, with Jamie Dunn playing a great game. This was Dunn's last game as she is relocating to Australia.

Premier Reserves

Results:

Takahiwai 1 53 Manawanui Collegiate Red 42; Fideliter 3 46 Manawanui Social 36; Marist 2 49 Wahine Toa 1 55.
