A one point loss is as close as you can get to a positive result without actually getting it.
And, for Webb Glass/French Cafe Onerahi that was the case in the premier reserve netball competition.
In what proved to be a real nail bitter, Onerahi went down to Wahine Toa2 by 45-44 after Onerahi had made a fighting comeback.
Wahine Toa 2 had a strong start but lost both the third and final quarters, however their work in the first half was enough to secure the win on the weekend.
For Wahine Toa 2, in the mid court, Michelle Allen at centre was consistent throughout the game obtaining some good turnover ball. In the shooting circle Jahitsha Ihaia showed speed and accuracy and Kahu Kura Hau-Peita had an outstanding holding game at goal shoot.
For Onerahi, Casey Williamson at goal defence put good pressure on through the mid court and Nickishea Ashby at goal keep was able to pick up a number of intercepts as a result. Shooters Sarah Drinnan and Natasha Haereroa played outstanding putting up some great shots and assisting in closing a nine goal deficit after half time.
In other games, Wahine Toa 1 had a good win over Active Refrigeration Fideliter 3 by 42-31. However, similar to the Onerahi game, it was a game of two halves with Fideliter 3 managing to draw both the third and final quarters.
For Wahine Toa 1, the return of defender Renee Himona brought value, bonding and teamwork with her co-defender Merita Warewaka getting some good ball. In the shooting circle Maria Dick had a good shooting game and teamed up well with Koea Kaka well.
For Fideliter 3, there was some excellent teamwork.
Manawanui White had a comprehensive win over Craig's Firestone Marist by 51-26 after being strong throughout the game, except for a low scoring and close second quarter with only one goal in it.
For Manawanui White, Cherith Schragg was tireless in goal defence and she was well supported at different stages during the game by Jaelyn Walker and Jade Telfer. In mid court, sister Sian Telfer had a strong game and was well supported by Larrisa Hona and Kelsey Power. Rhiannon Reti at goal attack and goal shoot had a solid performance.
For Marist, Lucinda McBeth and Germaine Gibson in defence played hard. Rebecca Simper, Jamie Dunn and Tegan Musgrove all playing goal attack or goal shoot all fought hard to get free to receive the ball and to put the shots up.
