Marist held their nerve to beat Wahine Toa 1 by two goals in the premier reserve competition.

With the first quarter drawn, Marist then won the next two quarters before Wahine Toa fought back to take the final one. However, it was not enough as Marist won 36-34.

Marist's defence was tight throughout the weekend's game with Germaine Gibson working tirelessly with good support from Jackie Marvin.

For Wahine Toa 1, Rita and Renee Himona in defence in the first half were effective; coming up with some good tips and intercepts. Koea Kaka at centre and Sophia Thomas at wing attack in the final quarter were effective on attack and helped bring the ball through the court.

Fideliter 3 had a good win over Wahine Toa 2 by 34-22. Fideliter 3 started strongly and were up seven goals at the first quarter. They then managed to maintain and extend their lead throughout.

For Fideliter 2, lots of tips and intercepts, especially from Frances Esveld at goal defence and Kelly Read at goal keep, helped secure the win with Sue Culham at centre named player of the day.

Wahine Toa 2 played their usual tight defensive game and Wahine Lomas worked hard at goal keep. Te Arahi Stocks at wing defence toiled well against a strong Fideliter attacking team.

Manawanui White had a convincing win over Onerahi 2 by 66-22, taking it out with dominant form from start to finish.

They had particularly strong first and final quarters and in the final quarter, they kept Onerahi 2 to just three goals.

For Onerahi 2, shooters Sarah Drinnan and Natasha Haereroa did a power of work to position themselves well in the shooting circle.

A number of defence combinations were tried, all of whom got some good tips, but unfortunately the turnovers were not capitalised on.

Sian Telfer's move from centre into goal defence and then to wing defence put pressure over the ball and she picked up plenty of tips and intercepts as well as creating turnovers. Larissa Hona in midcourt worked tirelessly and helped bring the ball through the court and fed the shooters with good ball.

Premier Reserve

Onerahi 2 v Manawanui White, 22-66

Wahine Toa 1 v Marist, 34-36

Wahine Toa 2 v Fideliter 3, 22-34
